Family Day and society.

Today I want to share my impressions of the society, traditions and understanding. Last week we had a wonderful trip out of town with Redbubble employees and their families. The day was perfect and I really was waiting for it. Each departure for me is expanding the boundaries of knowledge in Australia. I had agreed with Dominic and took office camera. I offered to make a photo report of what is happening. Initially, there was some tension, and then all relaxed and happy to pose. Turned wonderful photos will remain the memory of the trip. I'll post some photos here for you.

Birds Show. Healsville Sanctuary, Victoria, Australia

In the  Healsvillle Senctuary conducted numerous educational lectures and shows, one of the show I was lucky to see! This birds show. It happened such way- there are big different birds  fly time to time over the heads of spectators. We all were very impressed with the huge eagle with a wingspan of up to 1,5 meters, they were doing circles above us, and then picking up or catching pieces of food. It was very entertaining. I post the pictures! Enjoy!

Koalas look like toys, they are unreal.

On Friday, September 23 we announced an outing dedicated to the celebration of Family Day.
This holiday is to provide recreation for people so that they could spend the day with their families and friends. This is one of the rare types of public holidays which are not dedicated to any memorable events. On this day, the majority of enterprises do not work.
The first festival was held in 2007.
Australians love to relax and they like the idea of the day off. Families deliberately spend time together doing what allows spring weather ... barbecues, visits to museums, recreation on the lake, taking a balloon fly, or a quiet day under the TV.

The family day for the team and the families of employees Redbablle advance planned a trip to Healesville Sanctuary.
Healesville Sanctuary,  Sir Colin McKenzie Zoo, specializing in Australian animals. It is located in Healesville in a rural area of Victoria and is engaged in the breeding of local animals. This is one of two places in the country, where he successfully bred platypi.
The Sanctuary is located in the natural habitat of various animals such as wallabies, wombats, dingoes, kangaroos, and more than 200 local species of birds.

Our day was very successful, we were accompanied by the great weather and I took a lot of pictures!
Now with great pleasure, I will share it with you. Of course, I wanted to see your comments!

Hiealesville Sanctuary.

Healesville Sanctuary,

My favorite friend- Wombat!!!

Colonel Sir Ernest Edward "Weary" Dunlop

During one of the trips my attention held memorial. He portrayed a man whose jacket was decorated with a red flower, and the same flower was in his hand. It was not usual and I came closer, it would be better to see it. Expression of his face was so touching that I decided to find out who was this nice, friendly man. And here is his story:
Colonel Sir Ernest Edward "Weary" Dunlop (12 July 1907 - 2 July 1993) was an Australian surgeon, known for his work in the prisoner of the Japanese during World War II.

During the Second World War, the Dunlop was appointed head of the medical headquarters in the Middle East, where he set up a mobile surgical hospital.
In 1942, he was captured in Bandung, Java, together with the hospital.
Because of his leadership qualities, he was placed in the camp in Java, and then was transferred briefly to Changi. In January 1943, he commanded the first Australians who were sent to work on the Thai segment of the Burma Railway, Thailand, where prisoners were used for the construction of the strategically important supply route between Bangkok and Rangoon. Conditions in the railway camps were primitive and aweful- food was not enough, the beatings were frequent and severe, there was no medical care, people are sick of tropical diseases, and the Japanese are demanding high performance.
Along with several other doctors, dedication and heroism Dunlop became a legend among prisoners.

A bold leader and compassionate doctor, he restored morale in those terrible jungle camps. Dunlop defied his captors and gave hope to patients, to alleviate the suffering of the dying. He became, in the words of one of his men, "a beacon of common sense in the universe of madness and suffering."
His example was one of the reasons why Australian survival rates were highest. After 1945, with the darkness of the war years behind it, the Dunlop forgave his captors and sent its forces to healing and creativity. He said later that "in suffering we are all equal." He devoted himself to maintaining the health and welfare of former prisoners of war and their families, and worked hard to contribute to the improvement of relations between Australia and Asia.

He was active in many areas, has become closely linked with a wide range of medical and educational institutions, and also served as president of the Australian Drug Foundation for 13 years and was a member of the Victorian Cancer Council. His tireless work in the community had a profound impact on Australians and Asians.

Protea, Gondvana & Royal Botanical Garden, Melbourne, Australia

Before my visit to Australia, I wanted to find proof that the fauna of the Cape Peninsula, as well as the fauna of the Australian continent are of ancient origin, that many plants come from the ancient continent of Gondwana.
There is in Cape Town located the smallest, but the most rich for its spacies the Cape Flowers Kingdom (Feinbos). It mostly includes well-known all over the world protea, the national flower of South Africa (Protea displayed on the flag of the country). In addition, it tetch(reeds), Ericas and numerous family of geranium. But I have not met in relation  information sources of Gondwana, it was just my guess. And now I am in Australia! I really wanted to find a connection between the continents. It's great to feel the trail of the ancient era. Here, too, grow proteas. And here in plain text on signs the Royal Botanical Gardens wrote that the plants come from Gondwana. It would be very interesting to visit the southern tip of South America and look at the plants there. I hope that I will succeed!
